The brand name Lux has been associated with clocks since the company’s beginnings in 1914, when founder Paul Lux worked as a clock maker. With such a timely heritage, it’s not surprising that many Lux products today feature accurate time keeping, digital time displays and timer options. The Lux TX9000TS Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat is no exception.

Touch-Screen Display With a Minor Issue

The Lux thermostat features a large, pale blue, luminescent display that not only shows the current temperature, but the current day and time as well.

snowflake or flame icon tells you whether the system is in heating or cooling mode. The thermostat can be programmed to set your home’s temperature settings for the entire week, with up to four variable settings per day.

Lux boasts a user-friendly, touch-screen programming interface for its TX9000TS model. Some customer reviews takes issue with that claim, citing the interface as counterintuitive, using “yes,” rather than “enter” to switch screens, for example. Others lauded the ease of programming the system, saying they had it up and running in minutes, without consulting the manual.

Good Pre-Programmed Settings

Either way, you don’t have to program the unit to enjoy the Lux thermostat. The model comes pre-programmed with an energy-saving setup. Installing the thermostat itself just takes a screwdriver, a drill and a pair of batteries.

Simply install the thermostat to the wall, select “heat” or “cool,” and press the “reset” button to access the built-in programs.

The Lux thermostat does not automatically switch between heating and cooling. That’s an intentional feature. An environment does not need to be constantly heated or cooled to stay at a desired temperature.

The Lux model can easily be programmed to heat to a desired temperature in the morning, shut off, then cool to another temperature in the afternoon, saving energy and saving your money. It’s the reason that the Lux thermostat earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star label, and it’s the reason that the Lux thermostat can save you up to 33 percent on your energy bills.
